While there are many comments and interactions we all face throughout our lives, some have a way of sticking with us more than others. For me, one such comment came during a time when I was feeling particularly vulnerable. I was in a group setting, and someone made an offhand remark about the way I express myself. They said, “You always seem to over-explain things, like you’re desperate for people to understand you.”

At the time, it stung because it hit on a personal insecurity of mine. I pride myself on being clear and articulate, but their words made me question whether I was overbearing or annoying to others. It was a moment of self-doubt that has lingered, despite the many positive affirmations I’ve received since. This comment made me reconsider how I communicate, anxiously wondering if I was coming across as too eager or if my genuine attempts to connect were seen as desperate. Ultimately, the comment exposed a vulnerability and left a lasting imprint in my mind, nudging me to continually assess how I express myself in diverse social scenarios.
